  • Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh 2023

    A workshop with Rohingya refugees

    Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya fled from Rakhine as they came under violent attack and villages were razed. This triggered an unprecedented exodus across the border to neighbouring Bangladesh. Within a few weeks, half a million people entered Bangladesh seeking safety and shelter.
    There are now 860,000 Rohingya living in refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, over half of whom are children.
    A five-day workshop will be held with 15 young Rohingya refugees living in the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar. This workshop is part of a series of two with young people in Bangladesh led by Lyuba Matyunina, misha de ridder and Wouter Stroet in collaboration with UNICEF.

  • Dhaka, Bangladesh 2023

    A workshop with children living on the street

    Bangladesh, home to 160 million people, is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. The size of the urban population in Bangladesh is at 53 million. Of them, around 40 per cent are children. Hundreds of thousands of children are living on the streets in Bangladesh, and the number is expected to continue growing.
    A five-day workshop will be held with 15 young people living on the street in Dhaka and receiving support in shelters. This workshop is part of a series of two with young people in Bangladesh led by Lyuba Matyunina, Misha de Ridder and Wouter Stroet in collaboration with UNICEF.

    A workshop on climate change

    The Maldives is the lowest lying country in the world. Making it extremely vulnerable to climate change. The Maldives is also one of the world’s most geographically dispersed countries. Kulhuduffushi island is in the north.
    This workshop is part of a series of two with young people on climate change in the Maldives led by Lyuba Matyunina, Misha de Ridder and Wouter Stroet in collaboration with UNICEF for the COP26.

  • Malé, Maldives 2021

    A workshop on climate change

    The Maldives is the lowest lying country in the world. Its unique geographical features – along with the fact that the country is made up of 1 percent land to 99 percent water – make the Maldives extremely vulnerable to climate change that may displace its population in the near future. Hence, young people telling their stories is important to create momentum for climate action both by young people as well as leaders is paramount.
    This workshop is part of a series of two with young people in Maldives led by Lyuba Matyunina, Misha de Ridder and Wouter Stroet in collaboration with UNICEF for the COP26.

    A series of online masterclasses with youngsters with HIV

    What does it mean to grow up with HIV?
    What is it like to fight against the stigma in your own head? Should it affect your whole life, if you don’t see it and don’t feel it and you’re happy with your life? The young people have all found their own way of dealing with the doubts and uncertainties of a chronic illness, which is still taboo.
    The masterclasses were lead by Heleen Mineur and Sunyoung Glebbeek in collaboration with UMC with support from Gilead.

  • Mohnyin, Myanmar 2019

    One of a series of three workshops in Maynmar

    Twenty one minute video’s have been created by youngsters in Mohnyin, Katchin State, located in northern Burma. Mohnyin is a mix of city lowland and highland jungle, creating a unique ecosystem. For hundreds of years, people have gathered here to trade medicinal plants, spices, gold, and jade.
    This workshop is part of a series of three with children (both in and out of school) in Rakhine, Kachin and Shan in collaboration with UNICEF and Myanmar Ministry of Education with the support of KOICA. The videos can be used to catalyse discussion in the community and among decision makers, and thus influence child-centred decisions.

  • Pindaya, Myanmar 2019

    One of a series of three workshops in Maynmar

    Twenty one minute video’s have been created by youngsters in Pindaya, a town in the Shan State of Burma. Pindaya is famous for its limestone caves where thousands of Buddha images have been consecrated for worship over the centuries.
    This workshop is part of a series of three with children (both in and out of school) in Rakhine, Kachin and Shan in collaboration with UNICEF and Myanmar Ministry of Education with the support of KOICA. The videos can be used to catalyse discussion in the community and among decision makers, and thus influence child-centred decisions.

  • Thandwe, Myanmar 2019

    One of a series of three workshops in Maynmar

    Nineteen video’s have been created by youngsters in Thandwe, a town and major seaport in Rakhine State, the most western part of Myanmar. Thandwe is very ancient and is located in an area that is mountainous while spurs of the Arakan Mountains are reaching all the way to the coast.
    This workshop is part of a series of three with children (both in and out of school) in Rakhine, Kachin and Shan in collaboration with UNICEF and Myanmar Ministry of Education with the support of KOICA. The videos can be used to catalyse discussion in the community and among decision makers, and thus influence child-centred decisions.

  • Arnhem, The Netherlands 2019

    A workshop with youngsters at an asylum seekers center

    Nine videos have been made at the asylum seekers center in Arnhem, where we worked with a group of youngsters between 10-25 years old, coming from Syria, Turkey and Palestine. The young filmmakers learned to translate their idea’s into visuals and made wonderful movies that offer glimpses into their lives.
    The workshop was organised in collaboration with de Vrolijkheid - The National Foundation for the Promotion of Happiness and Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA).

  • Sittwe, Myanmar 2019

    A workshop at Runn Khon Reat Philanthropic School

    Our partners in Myanmar ran a workshop at Runn Khon Reat Philanthropic School in Sittwe, Rakhine State, Myanmar. Twelve young participants filmed their first-ever movies about migration, social inclusion and diversity.
    The workshop was organised in cooperation with IOM. The movies will participate in the PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival 2019

    A workshop with youngsters at an asylum seekers center

    At an asylum seekers center in Almelo, we worked with a group of youngsters between 10-21 years old, coming from Syria, Eritrea, Lebanon and Nigeria.

    One Minute documentaries were made during our masterclass with 20 students of SG Huizermaat in collaboration with IDFA and HW10. In only one day they were introduced into documentary film-making and finalized ten video-works.

    Teenagers from Afghanistan, Eritrea, Irak and Syria created videos at our workshop at Doggershoek, an asylum seekers center in Den Helder.

    Five workshops documentary for schoolchildren

    In three days we ran five workshops for 98 students of Ir. Lely Lyceum in Amsterdam in collaboration with International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam IDFA. During class, short documentaries were produced in the theme of daily life, friendship and bullying.

    In collaboration with Cinekid, we organised a workshop for nine Amsterdam youngsters at DOCK, making young people resilient and increasing their world. All films produced at the workshops will screen at Cinekid Festival 2018.

    At our workshop at an asylum seekers center in Arnhem we worked with teenagers from Afghanistan, Eritrea, Syria and Turkey.

    Fourteen movies were been made by a group of kids between eight and 13 years old during our workshop at an asylum seekers center in Rotterdam. The kids, coming from Afghanistan, Eritrea and Syria, have been in the Netherlands since two months to one year. The workshop was organised in collaboration with de Vrolijkheid - The National Foundation for the Promotion of Happiness, Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) and ABN AMRO Cultuurfonds.

    A workshop with seropositive youngsters

    What does it mean to grow up with HIV?
    The stigma is still just as great, show seropositive youngsters in their one minute film clips. Their films opened the International Workshop on HIV and Pediatrics in Amsterdam, which preceded the International AIDS Conference 2018.
    Five very personal and penetrating videos - made under professional supervision - that show what it is like to be infected with HIV very early. What it means to grow up with it and become a mother. When and to whom you dare to tell your secret. How to deal with that eternal bad feeling and who you really get support from. But also whether you can grow old normally if you always have to keep taking those pills. Doubts and uncertainties about a chronic illness, which is still a huge taboo.
    The workshop was a collaboration with UMC with the support of Gilead.

  • Barneveld, the Netherlands 2018

    40 one-minute videos were created at ‘De Meerwaarde’ in Barneveld during The One Minutes Jr. DOC workshop in collaboration with International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam IDFA. The videos are all very personal portraits of young students who are sharing their thoughts about friendship, love and education.

  • Luttelgeest, the Netherlands 2018

    Ten video’s have been made at the Asylum Seekers Centre in Luttelgeest by young participants coming from Syria and Eritrea. The centre is one of the first that opened it’s doors in 1987 in The Netherlands and is located in the north of the country. The workshop was organised in collaboration with The National Foundation for the Promotion of Happiness (Stichting de Vrolijkheid), Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) and ABN AMRO Cultuurfonds.

  • Mogadishu, Somalia 2018

    We worked with 18 young Somalis in Mogadishu, with very tight security due to the general instability in the country. Since the focus of the workshop was on “democracy” and “choices”, there are several videos about the value of the constitution and women’s participation in politics. There are also films about other social issues in the country that need to be addressed according to the participants, who work with street children, children with disabilities, women’s rights organizations and on literacy campaign. The 16 produced films give a good overview of social issues young Somalis want to address.
    The workshop was organized in collaboration with Creative Associates International.

  • Rijswijk, the Netherlands 2018

    A group of youngsters coming from Syria, Eritrea and Afghanistan created ten amazing video’s at a workshop in an asylum seeker centre in Rijswijk. The center is located on the territory of a former technical school and is capable to host about 500 people.
    The workshop was organised in collaboration with The National Foundation for the Promotion of Happiness (Stichting de Vrolijkheid), Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) and ABN AMRO Cultuurfonds.

  • Cairo, Egypt 2017

    Twenty-five videos were made at a workshop in Haram City, 6th of October region, near Cairo, Egypt. In the video’s the children are sharing their personal experiences and their dreams for the future.
    The workshop was organised in cooperation with UNICEF Egypt and Banati Foundation.

  • Wanju, South Korea 2017

    Twenty-two videos have been made by teenagers from South Korea. Some of the videos were dealing with diversity, dreams for the future, pressure of school and the lack of free time. The workshop took place in Wanju, a county in North Jeolla Province and was organised in the context of Child Friendly Cities, the theme UNICEF South Korea is programming for this year.

  • Amsterdam, the Netherlands 2017

    All nominees for The One Minutes Jr. Awards 2017 were invited to attend the masterclass during the awards weekend. In just two days they managed to make another video. The participants came from Hong Kong, Syria, Afghanistan and The Netherlands. The results were shown at WOW Amsterdam.

  • Den Helder, the Netherlands 2017

    A group of young men have fled from Afghanistan and Syria and told their stories in wonderful one-minute videos. The workshop was held at asylum seekers centre Doggershoek. It hosts a maximum of 600 asylum seekers, including 100 unaccompanied minor refugees. The workshop was organised in collaboration with The National Foundation for the Promotion of Happiness (Stichting de Vrolijkheid), Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) and ABN AMRO Cultuurfonds.

  • Oisterwijk, the Netherlands 2017

    Ten video’s have been made during a workshop in a refugee center in Oisterwijk in summer. The center hosts adults and single minor refugees. It is located in the forest in the province of Noord-Brabant in the south of The Netherlands.

  • Zeewolde, the Netherlands 2017

    Thirteen youngsters created fantastic video’s at a workshop at a refugee center in Zeewolde, hosting almost 600 refugees.

  • Rotterdam, the Netherlands 2017

    Eleven youngsters created personal portraits on their thoughts and dreams about life at a refugee center in Rotterdam. Most of the children are from Syria. Some have just arrived, others haven been in The Netherlands for one year already. The refugee center in Rotterdam supports about 400 refugees, mostly from Syria, Afghanistan and Irak, with living and immigration procedures. The workshop was produced together with The National Foundation for the Promotion of Happiness (Stichting de Vrolijkheid), Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) and ABN AMRO Cultuurfonds.

  • Hilversum, the Netherlands 2017

    Fourteen teenagers created videos at Museum Hilversum. Their films are part of the exhibition in honour of the 15th anniversary of The One Minutes Jr. project at the Museum. Also on show was a selection of the video’s made during the past 15 years.

  • Amsterdam-Zuidoost, the Netherlands 2017

    A group of young dancers from Amsterdam-Southeast made one-minute video’s. Many of the youngsters tell a story of how dancing helps in everyday life and what they envision for the future. Amsterdam-Southeast is a district, planned in the 1960s as a modern, functional ‘town of the future’.
    The workshop was supported by Cinekid, Urban Heroes, Aya foundation and NEVERNEVERLAND.

  • Volnovakha, Ukraine 2017

    Nineteen videos have been created in Volnovakha, Ukraine. Some of the video’s show a personal view of the conflicted situation in Ukraine. Volnovakha is a small city of district significance in Donetsk Oblast. It serves as the administrative center of Volnovakha Raion, one of 18 districts into which Donetsk Oblast is divided. The workshop is organised in collaboration with UNICEF Ukraine.

  • Avdiivka, Ukraine 2017

    The city is located in center of the region just north from the city of Donetsk. In 2017, Avdiivka was left without electricity and heating for several days beacuse of the war. Many of the children had to be dislocated and left their homes. In their videos they tell their personal stories and viewpoints on the world.
    The workshop is supported by UNICEF Ukraine.

  • Bakhmut, Ukraine 2017

    Bakhmut Raion is a district within the northeastern part of Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine. Bakhmut is the oldest historical and cultural center of Donetsk region. Fiveteen beautiful one-minutes have been made during the workshop.

    Nineteen teenagers living in Liman are sharing their thoughts about their lifes, the war and believes in their videos. Liman is a city in Donetsk Oblast, a province of Ukraine. The city was the scene of fighting during the 2014 conflict in Ukraine.

    Severodonetsk is a a city in the Luhansk Oblast of Ukraine and located nearby the Seversky Donets River. Twenty-One fantastic videos have been made during the workshop about how to live life in a better way and how to go for your dreams.

  • Mariupol, Ukraine 2017

    Twenty-two inspiring one-minute videos have been made by teenagers at the workshop in Mariupol. Mariupol is a city of regional significance in south eastern Ukraine, situated on the north coast of the Sea of Azov at the mouth of the Kalmius river. Many of the videos are dealing with the current political situation and it’s past.
    The workshop in Mariupol was organised in collaboration with UNICEF.

    Fifteen teenagers created beautiful One Minutes during a film workshop on Aruba, organised by Ateliers ’89 and supported by Mondriaan Fund, Unoca and NEVERNEVERLAND.

  • Dobropillia, Ukraine 2017

    Twenty teenagers from Dobropillia, a city of 30,000 inhabitants in the Donbas region of Ukraine were participating in a five-day workshop. They produced films about life as it is right now and the life they are hoping for in the future. The workshop was supported by UNICEF Ukraine, TV studio Rosovy Slon and the NGO Dobro.

  • Kharkiv, Ukraine 2017

    Twenty teenagers became filmmakers in five days time. The workshop took place at the youth center Kompas in Kharkiv Oblast in eastern Ukraine in January by minus 10 degrees celsius and was supported by UNICEF Ukraine.

  • Sloviansk, Ukraine 2016

    Teenagers from Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Liman and Mikolaevka (Donetsk Oblast) were participating in a five-day workshop at Teplitsya Youth Center in Sloviansk. The workshop is part of a series of hands-on trainings for young people supported by UNICEF Ukraine as part of a bigger youth engagement initiative in eastern Ukraine.

  • Amsterdam-Zuidoost, the Netherlands 2015

    Fourteen one-minute videos were made during a workshop with pupils of the Samenspel school in Amsterdam-Zuidoost, The Netherlands. The workshop was organised in collaboration with Cinekid. The films premiered at the opening night of Cinekid Festival, a film, television and new media festival for children, that takes place annually in Amsterdam.

  • Den Helder, the Netherlands 2015

    Ten one–minute videos were made by young men from Syria, Eritrea and Afghanistan who fled from the war to The Netherlands without their parents. The workshop was held in Asylum seekers centre Doggershoek in Den Helder in collaboration with The National Foundation for the Promotion of Happiness (Stichting de Vrolijkheid) and The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA).

  • Taunggyi, Myanmar 2015

    Taunggy is the capital of Shan State and lies within the Myelat region at an elevation of 1,436m above sea level. Fourteen teenagers from the region were invited to make one-minute videos about their life, hopes and dreams. The workshop was organised in collaboration with UNICEF.

  • Baku, Azerbaijan 2015

    Seventeen fantastic videos made by teenagers from Azerbaijan, half of whom were visual and hearing-impaired. The theme of the workshop was ‘Abilities are Limitless’ and that is exactly what they show us with their videos.
    The workshop was sponsored by UNICEF and the British Council.

  • Tacloban, Philippines 2015

    Nineteen boys and girls from Tacloban took part at The One Minutes Jr. workshop, supported by UNICEF. Tacloban is the provincial capital of Leyte. In 2013 Typhoon Haiyan, known as Super Typhoon Yolanda, was one of the most intense tropical cyclones, which devastated portions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines. Many of the youngsters were still dealing with the consequences of that natural disaster and are sharing their thoughts and dreams in their videos.

  • Pibor, South Sudan 2015

    Pibor is located in eastern South Sudan near the border to Ethiopia.
    Fourteen young teenagers from Pibor are sharing their stories about their life and also their experiences of the war.
    The civil war in South Sudan erupted in 2013 and has devastated the country since then.
    The workshop was organised in collaboration with UNICEF.

  • Zaquatala, Azerbaijan 2015

    Zaquatala is a city in northwest of Azerbaijan with a municipal population of 31.300 inhabitants and is located northwest of Sheki by the Tala River. Ten young people from that region did create beautiful one minutes videos. Some are still dealing with the consequences of the earthquake that struck the region in 2012.
    The workshop was organised in collaboration with UNICEF Azerbaijan.

    Twenty beautiful videos have been made by teenagers at the workshop in Kharkiv. The videos are dealing with personal stories and thoughts about life, friendship and the war. Kharkiv is the second-largest city in Ukraine in the northeast of the country with a population of 1.5 million people.
    The workshop was organised in collaboration with UNICEF Ukraine.

  • Masterclass The One Minutes Jr. Awards nominees 2015

    During IDFA the best five videos of each category were selected to be shown on big screen in the famous cinema Tuschinski in Amsterdam, that opened it’s doors in 1921. We invited the nominees to come over to watch their films at the festival and to be celebrated. All of them won a place in the masterclass to make new and even more professional films during only 3 days. The masterclass took place at WOW-hostel Amsterdam.

  • Dilijan, Armenia 2014

    Twenty-Two videos have been made during the workshop in Dilijan by teenagers from the region. The forested and reclusive town is home to numerous Armenian artists, composers, and filmmakers and features some traditional Armenian architecture. Dilijan lies on the banks of Aghstev River at a height of 1,500 metres above sea level. The valley is surrounded with the Lesser Caucasus mountains from the north, and the Semyonovka mountain pass from the south.
    The workshop was organised in collaboration with UNICEF Armenia.

  • Dhaka, Bangladesh 2014

    Twenty great videos have been made during the workshop by teenagers from and around Dhaka. Dhaka is the capital of the country with a population of 14.5 million people and is located on the eastern banks of the Buriganga River, the lower reaches of the Ganges Delta. Tropical vegetation and moist soils characterize the land, which is flat and close to sea level. This leaves Dhaka susceptible to flooding during the monsoon seasons owing to heavy rainfall and cyclones.
    The workshop was organised in collaboration with UNICEF.

  • Mexico City, Mexico 2014

    Seventeen teenagers from Mexico City made beautiful and also critical one-minute videos about their lifes, the city and the student kidnapping that happened shortly before the workshop. The participants were left with a lot of unanswered questions about the event and are dealing with them in their videos. Mexico City is the capital with a population of 21.2 million people at an altitude of 2240 metres.
    The workshop was supported by UNICEF Mexico.
