BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, 20 April 2012 - A presentation of twenty one-minute videos on “Children and Justice” prepared by young people from different regions of Kyrgyzstan was held on 20 April. The films are the results of a five-day workshop organized by Generation Insan Foundation with financial and technical support from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the European Commission.

The workshop raised the issue of young people in conflict with the law. The participants not only talked about their lives, problems and dreams, but were also given the opportunity to be heard. They now have the possibility to take part in various international festivals in the future.

In Kyrgyzstan the juvenile justice system is just beginning to develop. The new edition of the Child Code includes a section entitled “Justice for Children”, which addresses protection of children in conflict with the law and child victims and witnesses of crime. The aim of the reform is to apply educational influence rather than punitive measures, which are common today.
